Pertaining to fragmented (clastic) rock material formed by a volcanic explosion or ejection from a volcanic vent.
Refers to processes resulting from the explosive fragmentation of a magma or lava. May also be used to describe the deposits formed by explosive volcanic activity and directly deposited by transport processes resulting directly from this activity (Cas and Wright, 1987, p. 8). Pyroclastic is a Greek term which means "fire-broken" (Harris, 2000, p. 1301).
